Ingredients
  

Meghli Base
  • 1 cup ground rice or rice flour
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground caraway
  • 1 tsp ground anise
  • 0.5 tsp ground ginger optional
  • 1 pinch salt
Toppings
  • 0.5 cup shredded coconut
  • 0.25 cup chopped pistachios
  • 0.25 cup chopped almonds
  • 0.25 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 tbsp pine nuts

Equipment

  • large saucepan

Method
 

  1. Whisk ground rice with 2 cups water until smooth.
  2. Add remaining water, sugar, spices, and salt. Stir well.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until thickened.
  4. Pour into serving bowls and cool.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
  6. Top with coconut and nuts before serving.

Notes

For the most authentic flavor, use freshly ground cinnamon, caraway, and anise.
