Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 0.25 cup butter softened
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
Lemon Sugar Coating
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Method
 

  1. Activate yeast in warm milk and sugar until foamy.
  2. Mix dough ingredients and knead until smooth.
  3. Allow dough to rise until doubled.
  4. Shape into twists and rise again.
  5. Fry until golden brown.
  6. Coat warm doughnuts in lemon sugar and serve.

Notes

For maximum lemon flavor, rub the zest into the sugar before coating.
